The Better Donnybrook…Part 2…The Return

As I had said in my first Donnybrook post, “If there is any interest I’ll post the other 2 eps as well.” Interest is upon us so I figured I’d keep my word.
I can’t really find any info on these other 2 eps but I’ve included my own scans of the booklet/case. As I mentioned before, I don’t mind this music being posted other places since I think it should be heard but I’d appreciate some credit. Obviously, this stuff is out of print and for entertainment purposes only. You could use it to torture someone too if they like terrible music.
Up first is “The EP” which was released in 2002 and produced by Johnny K.

And here’s “Overboard The Book Of Days” which came out in 2003.

I hope you enjoy the tunes and rawkitude(it’s totally a word). If you do enjoy this music I highly suggest you support them by buying well the only thing you can currently buy from them at cdbaby. If you have any Donnybrook/Red Cloud Revival that I haven’t posted/don’t own please send it my way.

  1. Hey man, thanks for the info on those Eps. Ghost Image Remover is the only thing I have that you didn’t already feature, so here it is. Unfortunately, I don’t have artwork 😦

Thanks again, man! I appreciate the info! Now my itunes is perfect again 🙂

    • No problem. I’m glad that I could help. Thank you for Ghost Image Remover! I’m not sure how that one slipped by me but there’s some really great stuff in there. No worries about the artwork.

  2. YESSS! thank you so much for Ghost image remover. i have owned all these albums and since broke, lost, or played them to death.

there are indeed a few more cds to be had though. theres “the green EP” or something of that nature that pre dates BTG. its so rare that ive never seen a copy, i heard it streaming once online. if anyone has this and is willing to share….

Also, there was a cd that contained a mix of ghost image remover, the EP, and 2 songs from BTG that didnt get released, one being “crows at the auction” the other being “geheinamericana” or something of that nature.

I will try to find the artwork for GIR (which was only available on the first pressing if i recall) and scan it for the sake of doccumentation.

can anyone tell that i LOVE this band?

Also, Ive heard about the bands random recordings. they used to play songs that i saw them play once and never play again back in the day. I know from a guy close to the band that they did indeed record TONS of material, only to release a very little bit. i would pay big bucks to get ahold of that stuff!

    • Thanks for all the info! It’s nice to see that I’m not the only one. Maybe I should just turn this into a Donnybrook fansite…not really. If you have anything that you can share please do as it looks like it will be appreciated by at least a couple of us. Thanks again.

    • dude my brother has all the original guitar riffs up in his moms attic . Like all the unreleased jam sessions they recorded

  3. hey could you reupload ghost image remover . My older brother was the bassist for this band and is lacking his copy

  4. If you have access to any other recordings I would love to hear them as well as many other people I’m sure. Do you know why they never got signed considering it looked they were close to breaking into a bigger scene?

    • well my brother said that Josh the singer was having a bad attitude towards the other band members. The three original members were Joel Jake and jeremy Joel is my brother Jake was the main guitar technician and jeremy was the drummer .They were all in the same class together . Josh (Jakes brother) was two or four years ahead of them. Joel said Jake could always make better vocal harmonies and when he tried to help josh with the vocal tracks he would flip. And it went that way for a while . Joel said all the really good songs (cold confusion Moonset Final dance Etc….) were mostly by either jake or joel.

      • I tried to get joel to let me use the recordings but they are all on like some weird device like a huge cassete

  5. Thanks for breaking down some of the history and shedding some on light why things didn’t work out. I still think they could “make it” if they came back today. Oh well. If you do come across any recordings that aren’t up here I’d always love to hear it.

  6. Hey,
Pretty sure I live on the same road as “Donnybrook Mama” in Enfield. My cousin and I have always been into any form of Donnybrook. We’re in a growing prog-band and all too more than willing to cover Donnybrook songs. I’m trying to find ways of asking them permission and for any transcriptions that most likely don’t exist, all without pestering anyone. I’d absolutely love to cover Cold White Horse. If you could inquire as to any possibility of this being allowed or happening, please let me know.

  7. We love the group and with as much trouble as there is with obtaining versions of their work and the threat of the memory of them being lost as time progresses, even in Maine, we hope that covering a song or two from them would make people curious enough to dig up more on them. There are some fans unwilling to let them go. lol

    • I think covering a Donnybrook tune or two is a great idea. I know that I’ve considered it myself from time to time but never got around to it. I don’t have any personal connection to the band so I can’t really help you with getting in touch with them. I’d say your best bet is to try contacting them through facebook or myspace. I kind of doubt that they have transcriptions of much or that they’d be willing/able to get it to you. My personal philosophy is that you’ll learn and gain much more from figuring out the song(s) yourself. I’m just glad to see that this has turned into a place where some Donnybrook fans can share and discuss related information.

  8. Hahaha, that’s funny listening to Joel’s brother lay down a lot of bullshit rumors. The reason why we stopped playing was this: First off, Joel, the 2nd bass player of DB, quit the band so we got Kel Swift from Neurobox to fill in for him and he did admirably. Second, Jeremy the old drummer quit a year later so my brother Jake, cousin Jim, and I along with Kel decided to throw in the towel because Jeremy was the spine of DMFB. He was like our John Bonham. Without him it did not make sense. My brother and I always collaborated and laid down tasty harmonies, go listen to Red Cloud Revival if you need proof. Fact of the matter is, Joel turned his back on his “Pals” and is the only member of Donnybrook that does not keep in touch with any of us. He was the only member of Donnybrook that did not show up to my wedding last year and for some reason forgot to invite the rest of us to his wedding a few years ago. Jake, Jim, Kel, Daigle, and the Rankin boys still remain great friends and keep in touch to this day. Thought I would clear up Joel’s brothers misunderstanding of what really went down. As far as Joel is concerned, I wish he would snap out of it and keep in touch with the rest of the crew. We all miss him. –Joshua (Donnybrook + Red Cloud Revival vocals)

    • Thanks for the insight! It’s too bad things went sour with Joel but I hope it all works out for the best. I always got the impression that Donnybrook was right on the cusp of finding a much larger audience. I remember seeing the lyrics and discussion of one of the songs in a magazine like Metal Hammer or something along those lines and they mentioned that it was rare that they were doing this with an unsigned band. Were you getting offered shitty contracts? Were bands afraid to have you as openers and blow them out of the water like at the Dog Fashion Disco show I saw? It bums me out that such a great band didn’t get to be heard, seen and appreciated by as many people as possible. Clearly just based on the comments here you guys are remembered and appreciated.

  9. Can someone upload the albums again all the rapidshare links are dead…the ghost image remover last post with the megaupload link does work …and Josh’s story is the same one I heard from everyone in the band….And it sucks to lose a close friend like joel..fuck moved back here and he use to be one of my best friends and I feel more distant from him then when I lived in Iraq

  10. the best part about the CD’s is the label name because A guy we know got pissed on while passed out or something like i forget …def remember when it happened lol

  11. I’ll try to upload the albums to megaupload or elsewhere in the near-ish future. Thanks for the info!

  12. Hey, If y’all could reupload the albums id be really happy. I lost my copies while moving, still haven’t found em.

  13. Please, please, please… would someone re-upload these? They cannot be found anywhere. This great music doesn’t deserve to die! Thanks in advance!
